Mary Goldman Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Robert Mellor, on view from December 8, 2007 through January 19, 2008.  An opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, December 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Robert Mellor's seductive paintings are inspired by his fascination with organic forms that appear in landscape, textile design and decoration.  Executed in multiple layers of acrylic paint, the surfaces exhibit a subtle relief of cut away painted patterns.  Mellor likens this process to problem solving, infatuated with visual complexity and the limitless possibilities that unfold with every creative decision. The enlivened colors and recognizable shapes combine to reveal ornate abstractions where the unfolding reality is tenuous.

Robert Mellor is a Virginia based artist and graduate of Claremont University. Exhibitions include the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica; Irvine Contemporary Art, Washington D. C. and Raid Projects, Los Angeles.  This is the artist's first solo show with the gallery.
